During our Lent Caring and Sharing Adult Forum series, Deaconness Lori Wilbert of Voice of Hope Behind the Wall Ministries will share with us her experiences serving as a chaplain at Stateville Correctional Center.
During her 32 years in this ministry teaching classes and building community within the prison population, she continues to see God’s grace and hope fill the environment. From the cards and drawings prisoners receive to the personal growth of individual men both in the small moments and over the long-term, prison is a place where God’s spirit is found in the mundane, obscene, and obscure. Through Caring and Sharing education and giving opportunities during Lent, Lutherans around the world and in our community are responding to human needs resulting from poverty, disease, natural disasters, war, and religious persecution.
“And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’”
