Rejoice and be merry in song and in mirth;
O praise our Redeemer, all mortals on earth!
For this is the birthday of Jesus our King,
Who brought us salvation: his praises we'll sing.
Bring in the holiday season at First Saint Paul’s annual Christmas Concert on Sunday, December 15, at 4:00 pm.
The program title, Rejoice And Be Merry, comes from an English carol. It is also called the Gallery Carol because the text and tune were found in an old gallery hymn book, that is, a hymnal that would have been used by the choir in the gallery. The authorship of the carol is unknown.
Featuring choir, soloists, orchestra, and congregational singing, the program includes a variety of carols and songs of the seasons. This year marks the centenary of Lutheran hymn writer Jaroslav Vajda and composer/organist Paul Manz. Their gifts to the church in hymns and musical arrangements are among the most important of the twentieth century. To celebrate, our musicians will perform several of their works.
The Christmas concert is one of the highlights of the season at First Saint Paul’s. A gracious candlelight reception follows the service. We hope that you will invite friends and neighbors.
