REV. PAUL KRAUSE
Interim Pastor

Rev. Krause graduated from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, in 1968.  He served congregations in Madison and Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin and then in 1980 began serving as an evangelistic missionary to Venezuela in the capital city of Caracas.  He returned to the States to begin work in the Puerto Rican neighborhood of Humboldt Park at Bethel, Chicago, where he began Spanish language services.  In 1987 he took a Call to serve at Immanuel, Richton Park for twelve years.  In 2000, after specialized training, he began work with the Northern Illinois District as an Intentional Interim Pastor.  He served four congregations in transition until his retirement one year and a half ago.  He has come out of retirement to serve First Saint Paul's Congregation on a part-time basis.  He is married to Karren Mass, R.N., and they reside in Del Webb's Sun City in Huntley. They have one son, Joel, 28, who is a Civil Engineer and certified flood plains manager with Smith Engineering Consultants of McHenry.

TINA VANYZENDOORN
Office Administrator

After working at Standard Oil (IN), and Burson-Marsteller Public Relations Company in the 1980s, Tina VanYzendoorn left the corporate sector. Since then, she served as church administrator for River Community Church on Chicago's northwest side, and as assistant administrator of Gospel Outreach Christian School. During a portion of her time there, she taught grades four through six.

Tina joined the First Saint Paul's staff as office administrator in December 2000, and is actively involved with The Prayer Furnace, a city-wide house of prayer serving greater Chicagoland.

PASTOR DELAYNE PAULING
Emeritus Pastor

Pastor Delayne Pauling attended Concordia College (now Concordia University) Saint Paul, and Concordia Theological Seminary, Saint Louis. Early in his career, he served as a student chaplain in Grand Teton National Park, Jackson Hole Wyoming.

Upon graduation, pastor was assigned as missionary-at-large to the Lutheran Church of Bloomfield Township, an LCMS mission church in suburban Detroit. Under his direction, the church grew, relocated, built a new building, and became Cross of Christ Lutheran Church.

He accepted a call as senior pastor at Grace Lutheran Church in Glen Ellen. Later he accepted an executive position at Carson Pirie Scott & Company in Chicago's loop, while becoming a worker-priest pastor actively involved in student ministry.

Pastor Pauling returned to the ministry full time in 1979, and accepted the challenge of starting a LCMS mission church in Downers Grove. The church grew, and became Cross of Christ Lutheran Church.

First Saint Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church called him to be senior pastor in 1982. He accepted the call, and was instrumental in starting the community meals program held on Saturdays for those less fortunate in our area. After serving the congregation for twenty-three years, he retired in June 2005, and was granted emeritus status. Rather than the congregation presenting him with a gift at retirement, pastor asked the funds be redirected toward a major landscaping project that is currently underway.

Churches he served include:

  • Cross of Christ Lutheran Church (Bloomfield Hills MI)
  • Cross of Christ Lutheran Church (Downers Grove IL)
  • First Saint Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church (Chicago)
  • Gloria Christi Lutheran Church (Northwestern University Evanston IL)
  • Grace Lutheran Church (Glen Ellyn IL)
  • Saint Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church (Huntington, Long Island NY)
