On Saturday, June 17th, we invite you to enjoy fellowship, fitness, and flowers with your FSP friends on a bike ride from FSP to the Chicago Botanic Gardens in Glencoe. There are options for every activity level from taking a leisurely walk through the Chicago Botanic Gardens to biking 25 or 50 miles there and back along the lakefront path. Google map route.
If you choose to join us at the gardens, you can take the train or drive, then meet the riders around noon near the garden’s cafe. Brunch is served in the café until 2 p.m. If you choose to ride your bike there, we plan to leave from church following promptly at 9:30 a.m. following a brief bike safety review, filling tires and securing helmets. Organizers would like to emphasize the importance of helmets, water bottles, and basic bike safety.
Our planned route to the garden includes portions of the lakefront path, Granville Ave., the North Channel Trail, and the Green Bay Trail. Riders should be comfortable riding at least 10 miles per hour and comfortable sharing portions of the route with city traffic. We will stop twice for water and refreshments along the way. Our ride there will take us about 2.5 hours.
After arriving at the gardens, we will secure our bikes, enjoy brunch in the café and then the beautiful gardens. Riders completing the journey round trip will leave the gardens around 2:30 p.m. For those riding one way, trains depart the Glencoe Metra station to Ogilvie at regular intervals.
Option 1: Intermediate - Ride from FSP to the Chicago Botanic Gardens (~23 miles); take the Metra back, departing the Glencoe Metra station at 2:42, 4:42, and 5:36 p.m.
Option 2: Advanced - Ride round trip from FSP to the Gardens and back to FSP (~48 miles). Riders will return to the city along a different route, taking Sheridan and the lakefront path.
Option 3: Walkers - Take the Metra or drive directly to the gardens and enjoy lunch with the FSP bikers. A round-trip trolley ticket from the Glencoe Metra station runs from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and costs $2.
